France’s Macron Says That the EU Chief Will Join Him on China Visit Next Month
Brussels: French President Emmanuel Macron announced Friday that Ursula von der Leyen, chief of the European Commission, would accompany him to China on an upcoming trip. Macron will travel to China in the early part of next month to meet with President Xi Jinping.
After a summit of EU leaders held in Brussels, Macron stated that von der Leyen had been asked to accompany him on his trip to China to give a united voice to China.
China sought to be neutral in the conflict and has reaffirmed its ties with Russia.
In February, it published a 12-point position document calling for urgent peace negotiations and a “political solution” to the conflict.
Macron said that China’s efforts were positive but stressed that peace could only be achieved when Russia withdrew its troops.
